ARTIST PROFILE
About Kilgorman Studio
I started Kilgorman Studio to showcase my work in stone and other natural materials. I'm a journalist who went to art school years ago and who is now trying to reconnect with my art. I received a bachelor of fine art in painting from Boston University. After school, my art took a back seat as I built a career in newspaper journalism. In recent years I have begun carving stone. I've found that I really enjoy working with my hands on three-dimensional objects. I love the textures, colors and density of rock, as well as its history. It’s turned me into somewhat of an amateur geologist. And I love reshaping rock, the oldest material on earth; of chiseling what was once lava that flowed millions of years ago, or ancient sediment that once lay on the ocean floor. I work primarily in granite, limestone, slate and basalt. I am also influenced by great architecture, which I feel is a form of sculpture. I would love to eventually work on large-scale stone installations for public spaces. Please reach out to me if you have any questions.Â
